Our Team

Dr. Avirett has a special interest in specialty contact lens fits, such as scleral lenses for keratoconus, and dry eye disease. She gained experience in these areas at a private practice in Boise, Idaho. She also received training at Travis AFB and Indian Health Service in Santa Fe, New Mexico where she became skilled in diabetic eye exams.

She gained experience in ocular disease at an ophthalmology and optometry co-management center in Lake Havasu, Arizona. During Dr. Avirett’s free time she enjoys kayaking, biking and golfing. Dr. Avirett looks forward to making Kerrville her home and becoming a fixture in the hill country community.

Dr. Benny Peña is a graduate of Schreiner University and the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Peña and his family have lived in Kerrville since 1997. Dr. Peña was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas. After high school, Dr. Peña enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and is a decorated veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. 

This is when he first became interested in optometry. Upon leaving the Marine Corps, he managed a retail optical in Bryan, Texas, and played bass guitar with the Roger Creager Band. Dr. Pena and his wife Stephanie have raised 3 beautiful children. Two of the three, Harleigh and Nicholas attend Texas A&M University and Nathan attends Tivy High School. Doctor Peña’s interests include playing music, traveling, coaching sports, & collecting classic cars. Dr. Peña is the chief optometrist at Texas State Optical – Kerrville.
